Prisoner of Time

An old man is sitting there.
He's thinking about the past.
If he could have lived one more time.
He would have changed his whole life.
But you can't change what has been done.
And now, his youth is gone.
Hey old man! You can't go back in time.
You wasted every second of your life.
It's to late for crying, 'cause it's your time to die.
And the world can't do anything for you.
You think your life has just begun.
But in fact, it's done.
All those years that passed by.
You were nothing but a prisoner.
A prisoner of time.
You don't decide when you're born.
Neither when you die.
Time decides of life and death.
You should have enjoyed your life,
Instead of crying every night.
That you were afraid of death.
Prisoner of time.
You've seen your brothers and sisters,
Die one after the other.
Until you were left all alone.
Now you just sit there waiting.
Waiting for your death to come,
Like every old man around.
Prisoner of time.

Living For You
04:34

Here you are at last. We were waiting for you.
You know you didn't come fast. Your mother began worrying.
Now your cute little face has brought back the smiles.
It already been nine months. Now, you're alive.
Wake-up to your life now.
You'll soon see what it is.
You have no choice. You didn't choose.
So try to make the best of it.
Come on take your first step.
It's not so hard you see.
Push as far as you can get.
One day you'll be what you wanna be.
If you need help I'll be there to see.
What this little girl can learn from a guy like me.
Maybe I would tell you what you should do.
Maybe it is you who'll show me the truth.
You only lived a few days.
I'm here talking about you.
Wondering if a little girl,
Can here what I say.
But soon, you'll be old enough.
I'll be there remembering with you.
That 25 years before,
I was young like you.
Maybe that year my hair will have turned grey.
It will be the sign I was waiting for.
To leave you the place I occupied to this day.
Yes little girl, for me it's over.

Autumn Brain

Your head is falling apart like an old tree bouncing in the wind.
Leaves are coming down through your eyes,
It's just a question of time until you die.
The silence of night scares you to death,
So suicide is the path you find to see the truth of life.
Dusk is in your eyes even if the shadow of life still have a last breath.
You can't see the sun shinning, because the clouds in your soul still stand in front of your eyes.
Slowly you're coming down, like the rain I see falling out of your mind.
You always see the black side of things,
While your heart screams a silent misery.
You seem to be in a strange state of mind,
I would like to know if you hear me inside.
Talk to me; I can't read your mind.
Talk to me. Don't cut the line.
Why didn't you come to me,
When you felt your life got so hopeless.
Now your face shows your agony,
You used to be so receptive.
Talk to me; I can't read your mind.
Don't leave me, don't cut the line.
The wind blows hard and my head is ice.
It's to late for me, I already threw the dices.
I've been dead long before you knew me,
It was all hidden down inside me.
I feel my life dripping out of my mind.
Even at night, I see the sun shine so bright.
Someone is taking care of me. I'm happy.
Can you see my smile?
Let me die.
Let me die alone with my thoughts and my pains.
I'm O.K. I found my way.

Sixteen years old. Where have you hidden your smiling eyes?
Forever closed, I didn't even say goodbye.
What have you thought, leaving alone that fatal night.
I should have been there. Now, can you hear me cry?
So many years but I'll never forget.
What happened to me only one week before you left.
I'm telling you the truth and believe me I'm sorry.
I hope you'll understand. It's only the way I feel.
They were so nice, always telling jokes.
How could I've guessed what would follow.
Then I realize they weren't laughing any more.
I saw their evil eyes but it was to late to go.
They hurt me bad, I was little, I was shy.
You were sleeping so you couldn't hear me cry.
They took my body. With force they played with it.
I screamed, I begged, but god, they wouldn't quit.
Why did you go away, leaving me alone.
I don't want to stay. Don't want to live here on my own.
Every night I cry and would like to change it all.
Remembering those nights, I think it's all my fault.
Twenty years old, standing here all alone.
Everybody's gone. My youth is done.
Wait for me. I'm still without a home.
I wanna be with you. Happiness is gone.

Existence Montreal, Québec
Existence started as a “rock-opera” project written by Alan Charles. Joined by other musicians, the band took the name of
the project before starting touring in 1992.
The album Small People, Short Story, Little Crime came out in 1999.
In 2017, Existence released the complete original concept as the ably titled Origins album, since only half of it had been released as an album until then.
